Wardrick Wells Cay, Pirates Lair

Wardrick Wells, Bahamas 001

12/30/09   Our wind speed the fastest we had was 8.3, go Romeo go,we are sailing with great wind, not far to go, but  still nice to be sailing. Had to go around small Islands and sand bars to get to Emerald Rock mooring ball field. Romeo was ready to move, because the mooring ball was moving around and hitting the boat and the sound to dragging chain against the boat like pirates were down under the boat pulling on it,or it also could be the current.

Our new spot on the beach for the night nice.

Wardrick Wells, Bahamas 009

Now we finally know what Poison Wood looks like.

Wardrick Wells, Bahamas 011

Not a bad looking tree, but from here on out the Island is covered with it and is also all over the trail, you would think they would keep it off the trail!!!!

Wardrick Wells, Bahamas 013

Wardrick Wells, Bahamas 014

This is the only people we ran into on our three  hour hike, no one after these guys.We all talked about fishing and how lucky we are to be in this beautiful country. They are a sailing family  from Canada, they also have two more teenage boys. They invited us for music night on their boat.

Wardrick Wells, Bahamas 015  The water is about a foot deep we could walk to the boat from here.

Wardrick Wells, Bahamas 034

The sun is going down so we will have to run when we reach the beaches, to get to the boat before sunset.

Wardrick Wells, Bahamas 036

This is the biggest rat we have ever see and it is protected and on the Endangered species list in the Bahamas.

Wardrick Wells, Bahamas Land and Sea Park

12/29/09  Motor sailed to Wardrick Wells park headquarters.

 WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 001

This is the north mooring field and very busy.

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 002

Dingy to headquarter to pay for the ball for the night ($15).

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 003About 15 boats in an anchorage that is kind of like a river with the currents.

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 007

Our dingy anchored in the sand.

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 008View of the boat from the beach.

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 009Hiking the island, we found a cave (hole) with a ladder down into it. No lost treasures to be found, Rats!!

 WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 010

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 012 East shore had a lot of rocks next to the water.

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 015

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 016Another beach.

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 018 At the top of a small hill on the north side of the Cay was a place that people left small hand made signs with their boat name and the year of their visit. The park rangers want the signs to be made of driftwood.

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 020

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 021 Slapdash above the Bronco figure.

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 026 These small holes shoot a blast of air up at you as the waves from the surf crash into the caves at sea level. The air in the caves is ejected up with a great force.

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 025

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 033   One more beautiful beach. No beach chairs, no towels, nobody around.

WARDERICK WELLS, BAHAMAS 032

Highbome Cay Get out it is noon

12/27/09   Great night sleep on the dock, had a lot of work to catch up on and did not get started early enough the office opened at 8:00am at the marina Juliette went to buy more MB’s, because the 2ooMB John Doe paid $10.00 for the day before, did not last long. John Doe did not read the small print on the slip of paper with the code that they gave him at the office, so they did not know about the 200MB’s. Skype video must eat up a lot of MB now they know. The internet connection was very bad, to answers an e-mail Romeo had to type each letter 5 or 10 time it made him feel crazy. Triple A finally was able to do a Skype phone call after three tries, she was able to get a hold of Hercules and catch up on business, he is doing a great job.

John Doe sleeps a lot better knowing all his babies are sleeping. Triple A missed calling her BFF’S and wished they had more time on the dock, but why pay for another night with such a back connection. They felt sad they could not Skype Dad back, you would think that Highbome Cay  Marina would allow for a late check out especially after spending $400.00 for 5 bag of groceries. Eggs $6.90 just to give you an idea of the prices.  They kept knocking on the boat to get boaters to move like a Hotel guest, but they have no rooms to clean and no one coming in and empty spaces all around, pushy people running that Marina. They know they have you by the $alls those bas#%$&@#!!!!! No other stores until after the Exuma Park.

Christmas 2009 bahamas 028

Romeo would like to take his time and enjoy all the islands, one nice thing will be that Warderick Wells the island with the Headquarters of the park has internet, who knows what that will be like.

Motored over to Shroud Cay, trolled for fish all the way, nothing not one bite so no more fishing until out of the Exuma Park. Northwest wind rough water and  rolling. Romeo tied to a mooring ball for the night, they had hours of rolling waves 2 to 4 ft  and  15 knot winds. It was laundry day so clothing hang every were to dry, washing machine does not work when boat is rolling and it takes a long time for things to dry and uses a lot of power and water, next time Triple A will plan better when at a Marina and start sooner.

laundry day 006

laundry day 002

Romeo went out to relieve himself after dinner and he about got the sh#% scared out of him, he almost fell off the boat, as a bunch of fish swarmed his urine as it hit the water, it was exciting way to end the night. A large Yacht took an mooring ball next to GETLOST. Soon the wind shifted to the north and by 9:30 pm the water was calm and no wind and turned out to be a nice night in the end.

laundry day 004

laundry day 005

12/28/09 Romeo and Juliette woke up to a beautiful morning. And soon will head over to Shroud Cay to a hike to Camp Driftwood, there was a guy in the 1960’s  name Ernest  Scholtes. He lived on a sail boat like a hermit, he built a trail and started building thing out of driftwood. People for years have been dropping off treasures found in the Cays, apparently the Park no long allows cruisers to leave items behind. The park has threaten to remove all articles and the Exuma magic will end forever. You would think they could spend that energy cleaning the other park beaches like the eastern shores of HAWKSBILL CAY
