12/28/09 Romeo and Juliette anchored on the West side of the Island and took the dingy towards the beach to a creek that cuts thru Shroud Cay Island, to the Exuma Sound to open Ocean. They were both looking forward to the trip to Driftwood Park.
They had read that the trip thru the creek would be like the old movie AFRICAN QUEEN
The creek had many sand bar for the skilled dingy driver Romeo to maneuver thru.
Beautiful white sand bars 85 degree water so far so good.
Juliette guides Romeo thru the shallow creek, thru the Mangroves as he drives the dingy.
They reached the other side safely to the most beautiful beach and blue water they had ever seen.
They would have to climb up to the Driftwood park
They get the top with disappointment as Exuma Park had removed all of the contents of driftwood Park Juliette reacts to the Government decision.
All they found was some rock on a driftwood stick. It was very worth the trip and would recommend the short hike up.
Juliette was sitting resting after the hike to the top of the hill and was attacked by a tropical baby Alligator.
Romeo grabbed the small Alligator, and thought he must have been lost and needed help, he was just hungry and tried. Romeo picked him up and carried him and he is now their new friend and pet, they are still trying to think of a name for him.
Juliette jumped in the water at the entrance of the creek, the water had enough current it was like swimming in a lap pool and staying in one spot. She did not want to get out of the water and would like to go back there again some day soon and stay a few days.
There was a lot of fish and conch in the creek and they stop to look to see what a Queen Conch looked like this one is probley over 20 years old.
They went back to the boat and headed to Hawksbill Cay, to see if they could find the ruins on the northwest beach they had missed it the last time they visited the Island.
They were greeted by some locals, a Barracuda and a Manta ray approached the boat as they anchored. John Doe decides he would like to swim with them to the beach. Juliette is not to sure, but joins him with apprehension for the swim to the beach.
They start the hike thru the woods in search for the Loyalist Ruins if you look hard there is 10 houses, they found four.
This is what is left of the houses.
She calls this guy curly tail lizard.
Fire pit made of conch over 200 years old.
She calls this one Blue tail lizard.
Romeo found a GEO CACHE, HE ALWAYS FIND THESE THINGS. If you find one you leave something in it and take something out if you need it. Some have note books to login when you were there and your name or boat name. This one has seen better days.
Most of the land is very hard to walk, its all rock and each step is carefully placed making sure you looking where you are going not breaking a leg is important, there are no doctors around!!!!!! (except the yacht owners)
Time to go back to the boat and find a better place to anchor for the night.
