12/7/09 Planning the timing of the tides is the key to current cut crossing, but luck is on their side today, flat seas and current going the same direction and there were no other boats in site that made it easy to take the cut. Staying to the Eleuthera Island side and then once thru cut, Romeo heads over towards Current Island. Many a people run aground at current cut.
The current taking us in and spinning eddies below.
Passed thru with no problems.
The Glass Window is were the beautiful cobalt blue water of the Atlantic Ocean, meets the Bight of Eleuthera with its shades of emerald and turquoise.
SOME DAY THEY WILL MEET FOR GOOD AND THE GLASS WINDOW WILL BE GONE, AND HOW THAT WILL CHANGE THING ON THE BIGHT SIDE, ARE YET TO BE SEEN.
After seeing the power of the Atlantic Ocean at the Glass Window, Romeo and Juliette decide to anchor at Mutton Fish Point and walk to beach on the other side of Eleuthera Island. There is a 3 mile dirt road that goes over to the beach.
After a very hot walk thru the brush in the afternoon heat, they arrived to hear amazing sound of ocean meeting land and the crashing of the waves sounding very intent on destruction.
YOU GAIN A LOT OF RESPECT FOR THE OCEAN AND IT’S POWER, WHEN YOU STAND THIS CLOSE .
The area had a tropical desert landscape.
It was time to return to the boat, John Doe was always keeping time to insure to get back before dark. It started to sprinkle a little rain, within a few minutes it was a massive down poor of rain. It rained the whole hour walk back. They arrived to a beautiful sunset on the Bight side and a rain water filled dingy, looking like drowned rats soaked from head to toe they jumped into the dingy and headed for the boat. The worst part is how many days will it take to dry out the soaking wet tennis shoe.
